Mikel Frank

Experienced artist professional, who has dedicated his life to studying, teaching, and working in the arts. His passion for art was enhanced by his tenure at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Mikel has been curator and co-curator for several exhibitions in the New York Metropolitan area and in Charlotte, NC. He has exhibited internationally as a member of Global Art Project, a multi-media international collaborative collective with members from 19 different countries.
Frank has been involved in many collaborative projects including Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s, The Gates Project, Central Park: 1979-2005. His 10-year collaboration with Gerard Amsellem and his current collaborations with Barbara Ellis and Tina Alberni. Frank co-curated and collaborated with the Noyes Museum of Art to mount, MICA: Then and Now, an exhibition of alumni from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).
Residencies include: ArtPop Street Gallery, class of 2021, where one of his works was displayed on billboards and digital media in Charlotte, NC. Wildacres Artist Residency, Little Switzerland, NC. Project residency at Goodyear Arts, Charlotte, NC, and South Porch Artist Residency, Summerville, SC.
His teaching experience includes Adjunct Instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Salisbury, NC and Gaston College, Dallas, NC. During the pandemic, Frank created Zoom lecture presentations on master artists with collaborator, Gerard Amsellem, called Painters on Painters, a 4-part series on masters of the 19th and 20th centuries. Frank is President of the board of the Guild of Charlotte Artists, a member of Charlotte Art League and creator of the Contemporary Artists Forum, a critique group for serious artists in Charlotte. He now has a studio space at the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VAPA) in Uptown Charlotte. He is represented by Presson Gallery, Monroe, NC.
Mikel, was co-curator with Joanne Rogers, at Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery, Charlotte, NC for the exhibition Crossing Borders: We Are All Immigrants. This is an international exhibition featuring Global Art Project artists and local Charlotte artists. Frank’s synchronous collaboration with Barbara Ellis has generated large scale raw, unstretched canvases featured in an exhibition called the Big Ass Canvas Show at Nine Eighteen Nine Studio Gallery, curated by Joanne Rogers.
